Thursday, July 12th : Deer Lodge, MT or …Mr Clark is following us!

Well, those trains weren’t so bad! Only in the morning did I hear them! I am a bit cross with my human: she didn’t trust me very well and blocked the door of the motel room. It actually didn’t lock very well, but the owner said that you could leave all doors open here! Chilly this morning but sunny already. Today is another day on the Interstate: cars and trucks fly by! The terrain is grassy. Next to us the Clark Fork is still flowing and bringing some peace.

Suddenly I notice a marmot (or a beaver) in the grass – waiting to cross the interstate. But as soon as we cycle along, he hides in the grass – away from thundering big wheels which will squash him! The views do not change a lot and soon my human thinks about the time she and that other woman Céline were reciting statistics along the road. A bit of music would be nice sometime. Temperature is rising and water bottles are getting empty. It’s time to reach destination. Road work ahead – next 6 miles! Luckily we have to exit the Interstate. Deer Lodge – our destination for today. This is home to the Montana State Prison (the old one in town) and Grant – Kohrs ranch, a historical site commemorating the role of the American cattlemen. Many of the old buildings were closed though because they want to preserve them against fire. 4B’s restaurant serves an excellent tomato soup and grilled swiss and ham sandwich! Good food to get us ready for tomorrow.
