All right, we’re having breakfast at the
grocery shop – where everyone in Colter Bay gathers and where the drinking
station is.
An older cyclist comes up and he gets to talk with my boss. The
poor guy: he cannot continue because he’s feeling sick. Nothing my boss could
do to help him. Shortly after we start cycling we see the Jackson Lake Lodge,
which we leave to our right.
Keep going. We are now on a flat stretch, marked
by cones and a sign reading: DO NOT STOP AT ANY TIME – KEEP GOING – WILDLIFE
CROSSING. I stick my head out and try to smell something, but nothing comes to
me. Just before the dam the cones are gone. Two cyclists are standing along the
side and my boss stops and has a talk with them. This is really cyclist’s
heaven! A few of them are doing the Continental Divide trail: this dirt road
bicycling trail goes from Canada to Mexico. Hard stuff! Back on the saddle we
pass Signal Mountain. Here my boss remembers stories of other people seeing
bears here. I notice she picks up the tempo but I urge her not to sing! The
sage in the Teton Valley is an awesome sight – next to the towering grey
mountains, of course.
My boss is cycling along and soon we arrive at Jenny
Lake.
Lots of people here who take the boat ride to the point at the mountain
base where the hike to Inspiration point starts. But we do not put our hiking
boots on – we are heading to the bike path which leads us all the way into
Jackson Hole - and this is one busy bike
path. It’s good to see so many parents and young kids on the go! The almost 19
miles path is making this ride into Jackson Hole so nice.
Jackson Hole: I
smelled the DQ but we didn’t go there. My boss wants to check into the Buckrail
Lodge. The lady there still remembers us – and she is even so kind to do the
laundry of my boss! Soup – that’s a priority for my woman. She starts out to
the shop leaving me behind. She should have listened to the lady: a big thunderstorm
came over.
She had me worried because it took so long before she came back! As
it started to rain she found a spot under the awning of a house. It was as if someone was throwing buckets of
water from the sky. When it didn’t rain so hard anymore she started to walk
again, but the rain decided to come again. A car stopped, a window went down, a
door went open and she got a ride with a woman to the grocery store. On her way
back (it was a 1 mile walk – one way) she hit the Dollar Three shop and got an
umbrella for one dollar. At last she was back – to my great relief! That soup
tasted very good!
Aha ! that's where our rain went ! Now we finally have sunshine over here, I wondered where that rain got to. Good thing you weren't on the bike then. Greetz from Belgium, where it is now 32 °C for at least 3 days. Then those rains will be back dear Frank tells us.
