Friday, August 10th: Panguitch, UT or … Don’t worry – be happy!

First of all, my woman went for a run yesterday – well – she tried, but the cycling muscles do not go well with the running muscles yet and boy, was it funny to see her start! It looked like a fast walk in the beginning! But she tried and that counts!
Now, I know humans award Nobel prizes to each other. Well, I’m sure my woman will not do bad in the category WORRY. Boy – as soon as she gets out of bed her brain cells start working: “what will the weather be, will I make it, are there going to be some dangerous animals along the road (I must say – I’m not in favor of having a close encounter with a mountain lion either!)…”. It’s actually making ME nervous. This morning was no exception and she had it bad – right from the start! I asked her to tell me what color the landscape had – yucky dark green and ugly brown, she answered!

And the headwind is very strong!  Well, that’s some positive thinking – not! All right, the canyon of the Sevier river (yes – still that same river) looked a bit dark, but the sun was not yet over the highest peaks! But suddenly, 13 kilometers in the ride, a broad smile appeared. This cannot be the end of it yet, she said to me! So fast… See, woman, why worry about not being able to get there! Here the colors became fresh green and we both could smell the sage – o wonderful odor!

Here is the circle of rocks and there … you can already see, way in the distance, the Aquarius plateau of Bryce Canyon. Man, she tells me, I’m going fast today! The sun is out, the cows are now grazing, horses are playing and my boss is finally enjoying. For the first time, we do not have to rush to get to Panguitch – remember how last year you felt so exhausted on that 10 mile strip into town? And it gets even better (not minding the no shoulder in some places which is kind of dangerous with the heavy traffic on those 10 miles): we have now a tailwind!!!! While cycling we were watching how the clouds got bigger and bigger to our right. A quick glance to our left gave us this view of a herd of deer standing there - watching how we cycled on. As soon as we stopped, they ran off - funny how the last one seemed to have springs under its paws jumping up with 4 paws at one time.  Feeling full of joy we arrive in town – it’s only 11 am – a bit too early to have lunch.
How many more jobs do you have, Thomas?

My boss decides to go to the KOA – get the cabin – dump the luggage – go into town to eat and then she spends the afternoon at the fairgrounds where today and tomorrow High School Rodeo competition is held.

Where the rain is ... we cycled there one hour ago! See... I had reason to worry about the weather (comment of Renet)

Trying to rope the calve

Luxury seating in the stands - watch for bird poop!

The umpire - the calve has to lay down roped up for 8 seconds!
She sees teenagers riding a bull (they have to try to sit on it for 8 seconds), boys are roping some calves while girls have to rope baby goats (one of them goats sounds as if it is crying… so sad!)  and finally she watches the girls slalom around 6 poles (5 seconds to your time when one of the poles go down). And me… I stayed at the cabin and had a good talk with Mona!
Mona and me!
