Thursday, August 2nd: Nephi, Ut or …aaugh

Not a cloud in the sky! Today we’ll by cycling on the frontage road of I-15 – heading south. Looking at the map (which we bought today) it gives a great feeling to see how far we have gotten so far. The first miles incline to the town of Santaquin. Here my boss always has to figure out which street she needs to take. Since most towns have a grid road system, it doesn’t really matter… After making the left turn and cycling along some nice houses she notices the special corner: horses stand there on a piece of dirt (no grass), fenced in, with some red hay feeders (no hay) and a red carousel for the horses. We are doing well! Aaugh… that hurts, I hear my woman shout. I look at her, wondering what’s going on: she seems okay! “Something stung me”, she says “probably a horse fly, thinking I was a beautiful yellow flower”. The sting radiates over her back, but she cannot see the bite. I keep an eye on her while we cycle along the fruit fields.

10 miles into the ride we arrive at a gas station. This is inspection time – she tells me. And off we go to the rest room – stripping to see the bite. Wew … kind of big thing! But no problem… it doesn’t really hurt or itch. I take my boss to the  soda fountain and take some ice there. After cooling down a bit, it is time to start cycling again – uphill and into the wind. On our way we pass the Young Living Farms where they grow lavender – this year I do not smell them! Another odor reaches my nose – a moose! Indeed, some miles further, we see the moose laying along the road. My boss takes it with her and names it Mona, after the town where we found it. And my nose is doing overtime – I smell some more animals! Yes, a mouse! And it is still living – funny how the tiny little animal wriggles on the road. We reach Nephi around noon – giving us plenty of time to relax.
