This is the day – we are going to Bryce
National Park – to stay there! I’m so anxious to show Mona what a neat place
this is! Coming from Mona, she has no idea what to think about all this
excitement. We load Sweet Machine and we are on our way to heaven on Earth.
First stop is Ruby’s Grocery store again. They are going to get rich from our
visits up here the next few days! Then there is no holding back anymore – we
have to get into the park. Along the slightly inclining road to the entrance a
deer jumps out on the road in front of us – as if to make this an even more
enjoyable day. We do need to make the necessary picture stop at the sign of the
park.
Just around the corner and there it is – we are now officially in the
park. Watch for wildlife – especially deer, pronghorn antelope and the Utah
Prairie dogs. Dogs??? Don’t know why the humans call these creatures DOGS –
they live under the ground! My human tries to check in early but this time she
has no luck – as it turns out – we will have to wait even longer than normal!
No despair: park Sweet Machine under the awning and then we can walk around the
rim – enjoy the views – enjoy the sun – enjoy the silence once in a while –
enjoy the people around.
We even go to listen to the geology talk one of the
ranger gives along the rim. This very resourceful man wants us really to get to
know what’s going on around here. He begins with telling us that this is no
canyon at all: there is no river cutting
through it! He then uses sugar cubes and sponges to get us to understand
the idea of what water does to this area. He even uses kids to explain us the
idea of what thaw and frost does to the rocks – it is funny! And it sticks into
the memory – for now. My boss admits she finds it difficult to remember
everything about the geology around this place. She thinks she will remind this
time, but I wonder! When we finally get a green light to go to our room, we
find it on the first floor and it is huge and nice – with a balcony that has a
view on the … parking lot. Well, we cannot have all the luck of the world.
Later that evening I tell my boss to get outside again to go and watch the
awesome sunset.
