A climb to start the day is nice: temperature
is not too high. But wow… this climb does get my boss sweating! The barren,
dirty looking hills at the start of the climb change to green pasture land.
A
traffic sing warns everyone for deer crossing the road. I think the heat has
gotten to my boss: she is so thrilled to see a deer making it hard for me to
bring her back to reality: it’s a cow! 11 miles is the not too steep climb and
it brings us to the overview of the valley where Mormon pioneer history is big and
traditions live on.
On our way down we rush through Fountain Green – which was
hit badly by flash flooding just a couple of days ago. The signs of the
devastation the water and mud did is best seen on the stretch of road towards
Moroni.
But wait, another battle took place here:
Turkeys against Humans and I believe, looking at the feathers on the ground,
that humans won. There are no remains of them here laying along the road!
Believe it or not – my woman almost had a
battle with a dog! This “brother” of mine jumped out of the fields and there
was no yelling ‘STAY’… it just kept running next to us, it’s tongue hanging out
and panting a lot. We both were more afraid it would just get on the road and
jump up to us, making us fall over or maybe the dog itself would get hurt by a
car. After one mile it gave up…
Ephraim is home town of Snow College (and a
cool Wall Mart), only 6 miles from Manti. We are staying at the Yardley Inn – a
bed and breakfast place. Mormon tradition just lives in this house! The people
are very friendly and helpful and they let us go our own way. We had the Ivy
room - funny how people have themes for their rooms!
Dinner at Dirk’s was a
good choice to replenish my woman’s energy tank.
